Meet William and Lucy Naas

After fifteen years of retirement in Cape Cod (Osterville), we realized the need to get back to our family ties in Nashua and Hudson New Hampshire, (two sons, two daughter-in-laws and five grandchildren). Going against the flow (from the Cape to Nashua), we arrived back in the same neighborhood that we left 15 years earlier. After careful consideration and this being the right move, we arrived at a Golf Villa by the name of Sky Meadow, a gated community in Nashua. It was beautiful and the culmination of our desire to find a place back in Nashua, we could finally feel that we had reached our destination.

Three years of satisfaction resulted, living in a beautiful area close to our children, having all of our needs being met while we still had our health. Pretty fine for a couple who came from the Boston suburbs during the depression and WWII and we were married at 19 years of age.

As we basked in the wonderful times of retirement we could not help but think of our parents and their need for help during the last few years of their retirement. They each had to be helped, including living with us as their years progressed (and they were younger than we are now.) A plan to address this problem for ourselves had been in the back of our minds for a few years and we pursued this idea with slow determination.

After reviewing a few options and discussing our thoughts with our children and some close friends, we saw an opportunity called "The Huntington at Nashua." Hunt Community who has had 105 years of experience sponsored The Huntington, a brand new, not-for-profit life care retirement community. The Huntington offers a 90% refundable entrance fee and an optional one time fee for long term care. The more we investigated, the more this possibility became our solution.

Two years later, we now have completed the transaction and are living in our new apartment and enjoying the care which can be available when we need it and the joy of independence at the same time.

As someone said, "It is like getting on a cruise ship and never getting off!"

Meet Barbara Gale

I moved to The Huntington on November 4, 2004, leaving the state of Connecticut where I had resided for over thirty years. For me it was a monumental life change-leaving good friends I had known forever and selling a home I'd loved and detaching my life from a life-style that certainly was quite acceptable. You may ask how I am faring at this point. I would answer: WONDERFULLY!! I just love this place. Imagine if you will a recent blizzard raging outside that dumped inches and inches of snow. Where was I? Inside The Huntington looking out the lovely windows watching the snow fall, eating wonderful meals that I DIDN'T HAVE TO COOK, playing an occasional game with some of the other very congenial residents and going to a movie right in the complex (being served popcorn to boot) and then walking about 175 steps to my apartment from the theater to get back home with out ever going outside. I did not have to concern myself with arranging snowplowing or shoveling walkways…nor was there a worry about the furnace or the electricity going off, no less the anxiety about being home alone, snowed in for what might be a day or two as I had been in the past. Here at The Huntington you're looking at a "Club Med" atmosphere and I am just thrilled with it.

The City of Nashua too has pleasantly surprised me with its small town atmosphere, brick sidewalks, old, old stores side by side with up scale establishments, friendly sales people all this only a few minutes away from my new home. In addition, I am only eight miles away from my daughter and her wonderful family. They love The Huntington so much they drive over once a week to have a meal with me they tell me they wouldn't mind trading places with me and I can see why. One taste of the marvelous food would convince anybody of that, no less the welcoming, warm and worry-free atmosphere.

What does a typical day consist of? For me, it's going to the exercise room to work out on the treadmill, then attending my weekly art class or monthly book club, movie planning group or perhaps playing bridge, being transported to and seeing an art museum, conversing with newly discovered friends, eating healthy and wonderfully prepared food. Every week new activities emerge such as the partnership with the Bicentennial Elementary school and the Small World Day school, both right around the corner, where I will soon be reading to or tutoring school children.

You can see that I am more than enthusiastic about The Huntington at Nashua. It has exceeded my expectations by more than one could have imagined. It is truly a "cruise ship on land" (without having to take a plane to get to the ship!)

Did someone call??????

Hey, we have all moved in and settled down to a routine which keeps me hopping 24/7...............whew!

The half mile walk around the perimeter circle sidewalk is a nice routine for me and I get to check out the entire complex..........especially the food delivery area to the kitchen!

My Masters appear to be very comfortable in the apartment, coming and going via either the car or pickup truck to their daily trips to run errands, go out to eat, go shopping or drive to the dentist.........of course, I get to tag along and view the landscape via the vehicle windows.

Not as many trips to the grocery store, though, as they "go out to dinner" every night in the Coventry Dining Room.....saves them lots of money, they say!

The pool is sparkling and being used as well as the fitness room and the equipment there. Of course, being only a dog, I am not allowed in any of the common areas..............

Many neighbors have moved in, but it is still quiet. I get to check the comings and goings as residents pass by our apartment from the main entry to Lancashire Village and I can see them from the love seat by the windows............

They tell me that the 1200 volumes in the library are being used, plus the daily newspapers, computer and puzzles......and residents have organized groups which they are interested in: crafts, cribbage, bridge, woodworking, Bible Study, Investments, Exercise, Yoga, Massage, volunteering in either the Small World Day School or the Bi-Centennial School. The Huntington Van takes residents to shopping, concerts, art museums, casino or whatever..............

The Wellness Center is open where Nurse Practitioners have scheduled office hours for residents to take care of medical concerns, lab work or whatever........like going to the vet........ugh!

Anyway, just thought I would let you know how things are going and I have planned to stay here for many more years!

Meet Bob and Connie Foster

Two years ago, we signed up for an apartment at The Huntington, scheduled to open in the fall of 2004. As the completion neared, we vacillated as to whether to actually exercise our option to move in or not. The final decision was "yes". Now more than two months have passed since moving in and we are both very pleased with our decision. The community is spacious and tastefully furnished and decorated, including beautiful paintings hanging in all the hallways and meeting rooms. In fact, the décor is so lovely we feel we are living in a grand resort. Other attractions include the exercise room, hair salon, library, swimming pool, daily newspapers in the reading room section of the library, several lounges, formal dining room, informal dining room and a private dining room for when we want to have a private dinner with our family. On Wednesday and Saturday evenings, we enjoy movies in our 50 seat theater (popcorn included). Also, there are many activities to participate in such as study groups, painting classes, crafts, games, etc. The staff is very receptive to new ideas and suggestions for activities.

Why did we choose The Huntington over all the others? It is brand new, therefore most of the residents have moved in at approximately the same time; it is a small community with only 124 apartment homes, the location is great in the woods yet with shopping close by, and the best of all, it takes care of our long term health coverage with the Life Care program. Once accepted for residency, the residents are assured of being cared for in the health care village, in the same building, at the same monthly fee as the apartment. The health care village is well equipped providing 36 large private rooms with private baths.

Connie says she feels like she is in Heaven and has to pinch herself often to make sure it is not a dream because our surroundings, including our apartment, are so comfortable and everything we need is here under one big roof. Best of all, after 53 years, she does not have to prepare a main meal each day. The food is great!

Come visit the Huntington and see how great life can be. Bob and Connie Foster, H-208.

Meet Rita Dembow

Today is March 1, 2005. Exactly three months ago, on December 1st 2004 I moved into the Huntington at Nashua, Apartment Home H301.

To leave the area of New York, where I had lived all of my life, was a most traumatic experience. But it was time to down-size and be close to one of my children, so I made this gigantic move to another state. Common sense had told me to do this while I was still able to handle it. Three months have now passed and I can truthfully say, despite how traumatic the move had been it has become a gratifying and pleasurable move.

The physical location of The Huntington is as good as it gets, being in close proximity to any and all shopping needs. The entire building is absolutely beautiful, both in design and décor. The staff is the most pleasant and cooperative group of people one could possibly meet. Residents are friendly, down-to-earth, intelligent and in general a delight to know. Activities are increasing by the day, and more activities are on the horizon. There is certainly something here for everyone.

I love my apartment home! My future health care needs will be taken care of. The responsibilities of keeping up a private home no longer exist and it is as close to care-free living as one could get.
